Significance
Al Koot Fort was built during the Ottoman period in the al Bidda district. It is one of the few remaining monuments from the military architectural heritage of Doha. It was used as a fortress, later a jail. Then it was converted to a museum of traditional arts and crafts.

State of Preservation
The whole structure was submitted to refurbishment in 1978 and during restoration, many of the original features of the fort were lost. The fort is now being returned to its former grandeur, as part of the neighboring Souq Waqif project.
